WINTER WORKSHOPS AND SEASONAL SESSIONS WITH FRIENDS OF SHERFORD COUNTRY PARK
The Friends of Sherford Country Park have a busy programme of activities for members between now and Christmas, from festive crafting to traditional hedgelaying. The group has also built new links with the National Trust’s Saltram House, which have led to several special invitations. All of this runs alongside the group’s ongoing work to restore the Devon banks in the Country Park.
Natural decorations craft evening
Wednesday 4 November, 7pm, meeting room at the Sherford Community Hub
Members will get together for an informal evening making natural decorations. These will be displayed in the Folly at Saltram House as part of its Christmas celebrations. Some materials will be provided, and members are welcome to bring their own. Anyone who would rather make something at home can add it to the collection, which needs to be delivered to Saltram by 10 November.
Saltram House Christmas preview
Thursday 19 November, 11.30am, Saltram House
The group has been invited to Saltram’s Christmas preview day to look around the house and gardens and enjoy a free hot drink. Booking is essential.
Hedgelaying work parties
Wednesday 18 November and Wednesday 2 December, 10am to around 4pm
Members can learn the traditional skill of hedgelaying with an experienced hedgelayer. Meet at the end of Tulip Lane, where it becomes Oak Tree Drive.
Tour of the Saltram Estate
Wednesday 25 November, 10am, Saltram House
Saltram has recently extended its accessible areas considerably, and members are invited on a free tour led by the estate’s Community Outreach Officer and a ranger. It’s a chance to ask questions about accessible paths, signage and land management. Buggy transport can be arranged for anyone who would prefer not to walk long distances. The tour will last around two hours, and attendees can stay for food or a drink in the café afterwards.
