£20,000 NATIONAL LOTTERY GRANT FOR ‘GREEN SHERFORD’ PROJECT
Residents across Sherford will soon have more opportunities to learn new skills, connect with nature and take positive action for the environment thanks to Green Sherford, a new community-led initiative made possible by a £20,000 grant from The National Lottery Community Fund.
Led by Sherford Community Land Trust, with the support of Real Ideas Organisation, Green Sherford brings together local organisations, volunteers and community champions to create a greener, more connected and environmentally sustainable Sherford.
The project has been made possible thanks to a £20,000 grant from The National Lottery Community Fund, alongside match funding and in-kind support from the Sherford Consortium, and Councillor Alison Nix. The project will be delivered by Sherford Community Land Trust in partnership with Real Ideas, Sherford’s Environment and Heritage Group, the Friends of Sherford Country Park, and a dedicated team of community volunteers.
Together, the partnership will deliver a programme of activities designed to encourage residents to connect with nature, learn practical skills and take an active role in caring for their local environment. Activities will include supporting the development of Sherford's allotments to help residents grow their own food, creating an interpretation trail and family activities in Sherford Country Park to showcase the area's wildlife, habitats and heritage, establishing repair cafés where people can repair household items and reduce waste, and delivering workshops and outdoor events that help residents develop green skills while supporting biodiversity and sustainable living.
By bringing together local organisations, volunteers and residents, Green Sherford aims to create lasting environmental benefits while strengthening community relationships and inspiring more people to become active in caring for Sherford's green spaces.
