MONTHLY SITE UPDATE: APRIL 2026
April marks a significant month for Sherford, with the start of major works on Sherford Road and continued progress on improvements across Phase 1. Teams are also carrying out seasonal maintenance and site-wide improvements as we move into spring.
Sherford Road Traffic Calming Project
Work on the Sherford Road Traffic Calming project is due to start on 13 April 2026. The project — a planning requirement for the development — will make Sherford Road safer for drivers, pedestrians and cyclists, with improved junctions, updated road markings, a permanent lit path and a new mini roundabout.
The works will take approximately 14 weeks and will involve road closures and diversions. Resident access will be maintained at all times, the Country Park will remain accessible, and pedestrian routes between Gemini Road and Sherford Road will be kept open throughout.
A letter with full details — including the diversion route and phase-by-phase timeline — has been sent to residents in the affected area. Full information, plans and maps are available here.
Phase 1 Road Adoption Works
Completion and improvement works are ongoing across Phase 1 to ready roads for adoption by the Local Authority. This includes replacing kerbs, raising ironwork, and preparation for applying the wearing course — a surface treatment that improves road durability. Works will continue through April and May.
On Hercules Road, work is taking place to replace the manhole cover fittings, ensuring a smoother road surface. Traffic will be controlled by temporary traffic lights on a single-lane system while this work progresses along the road.
Sports Hub Floodlight Repairs
The floodlights at Sherford Sports Hub are scheduled for repair on 20 April. Works are expected to take three days to complete, after which the pitch lighting will be fully operational again.
Play Area Improvements
Improvement works are in progress in the play area, with equipment and flooring repaired and replenished. Climbing equipment has been fixed and new mulch has been laid. A new piece of sensory play equipment will be installed in the coming weeks — further details to follow.
Lining the Swales
Works will be taking place on the swales that run alongside the play facilities. These are drainage channels designed to manage stormwater runoff — running from the Gemini Road junction with Sherford Road, right down to the tennis courts. Protective liners will be installed to ensure the drainage system functions effectively, and this is part of the final handover works for this area.
Spring Clean
Several areas are being tidied and improved this month. Contractors' compounds, parking areas and storage spaces are in the process of being cleared, and the site will look smarter as a result. Wherever possible, surplus materials are crushed on site for reuse as aggregate — supporting the Consortium's commitment to sustainability. New flags have also been installed along Hercules Road, replacing weathered ones and providing a fitting welcome to Sherford.
