VOLUNTEER DAY SUCCESS
A project at Sherford is well under way, with leading local conservation CIC and biodiversity consultants, Pollenize, to make the town a beacon of biodiversity. Taking place in the Country Park, the aim is to combine cutting-edge technology and community engagement to boost the diversity of plant and animal life.
This month a group of volunteers have helped push the project forward yet further. Vistry Cornwall and Latimer by Clarion Housing Group joined forces to support Pollenize and conduct a biodiversity survey, known as a Bioblitz survey.
Pollenize has created a biodiversity programme that enables continuous improvements to land, which involves harnessing people power. By working with local community volunteers, a series of ecology surveys take place to identify local flora and fauna, which are recorded in an app. Pollenize uses the data to spot any gaps in biodiversity and create tailored seed prescriptions to help the environment flourish.
During the volunteering day, employees from both companies demonstrated a strong commitment to preserving biodiversity and fostering community spirit. The day's activities were structured to promote teamwork, as volunteers worked together to gather and record valuable data.
This hands-on approach not only contributed to the survey's success but also allowed employees to engage with their natural surroundings while gaining a greater understanding of local conservation efforts.
By joining forces with Pollenize on this project, the businesses showed their commitment to preserving the natural environment and promoting a harmonious coexistence between humans and wildlife.
Peter Sadler, Vistry Cornwall Managing Director, commented on the day's significance, stating, "We are proud to have participated in this volunteering day alongside Latimer by Clarion Housing Group. It is inspiring to see our teams working together to preserve the environment and engage with the local community. Sherford represents a shared vision for sustainable development.”
