NEW SOCIAL INITIATIVES SUPPORT COMMUNITY WELLBEING
Two new community initiatives have launched in Sherford, offering residents opportunities to connect, socialise and access support in a welcoming environment.
Oasis Drop-In Group
A new lunchtime drop-in group called Oasis launched on 20th November, providing a space for residents to enjoy hot soup and rolls, conversation and hopefully a laugh. The group is run by volunteers from the community, for the community.
Oasis meets every other Thursday from 12pm until 2:30pm at the Community Hub on Hercules Road (next to the school). The group welcomes everyone from the Sherford community, whether new to the area, parents or carers with limited time for themselves, or those who simply fancy meeting some new people.
The initiative reflects the growing sense of community spirit in Sherford, with residents stepping forward to create spaces where neighbours can connect and support one another.
Sherford Toddlers Group
Families with young children now have a dedicated weekly group following the appointment of Laura Suggett as the new Sherford Toddlers coordinator. Laura has brought considerable energy to the weekly group for toddlers, babies and their parents or carers.
The group meets every Wednesday morning from 9:30am to 11:15am at Sherford Community Hub. Sessions are designed to be fun and inclusive, offering opportunities for children to play and develop social skills whilst parents and carers can connect with others at a similar life stage.
"Laura has brought lots of fun and energy to our weekly group for toddlers, babies and their parents/carers," said representatives from Sherford Community Church, which supports the initiative. "If you've got a little one, join us on Wednesday mornings."
Both initiatives demonstrate the active role residents and community organisations are taking in building social connections across Sherford. The groups provide practical support whilst helping to create the welcoming, connected community that residents want to see develop.
