PARKING AND DRIVING SAFELY AT SHERFORD
Concerns have been raised by residents about dangerous parking at Sherford — most recently, residents using wheelchairs and mobility scooters have been unable to pass vehicles parked on pavements, creating a serious safety risk.
Motorists may only park in designated residential parking plots. Roads, footpaths and cycle paths must be kept completely clear at all times. We ask for your consideration and cooperation in this matter, for the safety and wellbeing of your family and neighbours.
Some pavements at Sherford are wider than you may find in other towns — particularly on Hercules Road — because this community has been designed to be attractive, safe and walkable for everyone. This extra width is not intended to enable parking or driving on pavements. It exists to give all residents, including those with wheelchairs, mobility scooters, prams and pushchairs, the space to move freely and safely.
Under no circumstances should pavements be used to drive or park upon. When vehicles are parked on pavements or blocking pathways, wheelchair users and those on mobility scooters have no choice but to enter the carriageway — placing them directly in the path of moving traffic.
Sherford is home to hundreds of families, a thriving school and nursery, and excellent outdoor facilities. Parking and driving responsibly is one of the simplest and most important steps you can take to keep this community safe for everyone who lives here.
Please help make Sherford accessible and safe for all.
