COMMUNITY UPDATE: WHAT’S ON & WHAT’S NEW
There's plenty happening across Sherford as we head into spring, with residents and community groups continuing to make the town a great place to live. This information has all recently been shared by Sherford Community Land Trust as part of its regular newsletter, which you can sign up to here.
Dates for your diary
The first Farmers Market of 2026 takes place on Sunday 12th April, with markets continuing on every second Sunday of the month through to October. And save the date for Sherford Day 2026 on Saturday 18th April — more details will be shared in the coming weeks.
Keeping Sherford tidy
The Sherford Community Litter Pickers are always looking for new volunteers to help keep the town clean. Equipment is provided and sessions can fit around your schedule. Contact Maureen at maureen037@hotmail.com to get involved.
Friends of Sherford Country Park
Volunteers have been busy with hedge laying and recently welcomed community members to help lay a living hedge. Coming up on 21st March is a free Coppicing Workshop led by James Dyson — places are limited so booking is essential. The group also planted willow whips in a wet meadow, which can be coppiced to make products such as baskets. To get involved, email foscp25@gmail.com or find the Friends of Sherford Country Park Facebook page.
It's also frog spawning season, so residents with garden ponds may start to spot activity. The Friends have a small team of amphibian rescuers on hand to help — contact foscp25@gmail.com for assistance.
Sherford Food Hub
Supported by Feeding Devon and community donations, the Sherford Food Hub provides emergency food aid to local people in need. The food club also offers good value bags of food for just £5, helping to reduce waste. For more information email sherfordfoodhub@gmail.com.
Sherford Community Church
The church, based in the community hub next to the school, meets every Sunday at 10am and is open to all. Exciting news from the church is the upcoming launch of a new weekly Youth Session, developed in partnership with Sherford Community Land Trust and co-designed with young people from the community. Easter activities are also being planned, including a Good Friday Muddy Church in the Country Park and an Easter Sunday celebration. Find out more on the Sherford Church website.
Oasis Community Lunch
The Oasis community lunch meets on alternate Thursdays from 12.30–2pm at the community hub, offering homemade soup and cake in a welcoming setting. Whether you work from home, are new to the area, or would simply enjoy some company, all are welcome. Upcoming dates are 19th February, 5th March and 19th March.
Community Choir
Sherford Community Choir meets fortnightly on Wednesdays at the hub from 8–9.30pm. No singing experience or ability to read music is needed — just a willingness to have fun. The choir performs at community events and takes on everything from Disney medleys to folk songs.
