UPDATE ON ICY CONDITIONS AT SHERFORD
Icy conditions are affecting roads across the UK during the current cold spell, including at Sherford. When the site reopened yesterday after the festive break, action was taken to address the roads at Sherford to assist residents.
Overnight, the majority of residential roads have been gritted, including those within Phase 1.1, along with key arterial routes in Phases 1.B and 2.D, helping to ease travel while temperatures remain low.
A number of grit bins are located within Phase 1.1, which were refilled in December and remain available for residents to use. In addition, the Sherford Consortium is planning to install additional grit bins within residential areas of Phases 1.B and 2.D, as well as refilling all existing bins, to support residents during future periods of cold weather.
Residents are also reminded of advice from Devon County Council for all highway users during severe frosts and icy conditions:
- Allow extra time for journeys and check the latest forecasts before travelling.
- Reduce speed and increase stopping distances on all road types.
- Do not assume roads are ice‑free, even if part of a gritting network.
- Exercise particular caution on rural, untreated, and elevated routes, where freezing and snow are more likely.
- Watch for icy pavements and cycle paths, with a heightened risk of slips and falls.
