NEW HERITAGE AND ENVIRONMENT WORKSHOPS SERIES LAUNCHES
Residents are invited to learn traditional countryside management skills through a new series of workshops being delivered by the Friends of Sherford Country Park (FOSCP) in partnership with local expert James Dyson.
The programme begins with a free Hedgelaying Workshop on Saturday 17th January 2026, running from 10am to 4pm. The workshop is supported by a grant, though advance booking is essential due to limited places. Those interested should contact FOSCP directly to reserve their spot.
Hedgelaying is a heritage craft passed down through generations which rejuvenates woodland and provides habitats for many species. Participants will gain hands-on experience in this traditional form of woodland management, learning how to select, prepare and use materials from the Country Park itself. This workshop offers a practical way for residents to help manage green spaces whilst improving biodiversity and providing habitats for songbirds and small mammals.
The series continues with a Coppicing Workshop scheduled for Saturday 21st March 2026, also running from 10am to 4pm. Like hedgelaying, coppicing is a traditional woodland management technique that allows light to reach the woodland floor and rejuvenates growth. Products from coppicing have many uses, and participants will learn how to select, prepare and use these in their own gardens.
An Environment and Heritage Evening is also planned for Thursday 22nd January 2026, with further details and timings to be announced soon. Three expert speakers from the local area will discuss exciting projects that can serve as inspiration for the Sherford community.
FOSCP is also planning future dates for the diary, including Sherford Day on Saturday 18th April 2026 and Open Gardens on Sunday 7th June 2026. For more information about any of these activities, contact FOSCP at foscp25@gmail.com or join their Facebook page 'Friends of Sherford Country Park' for updates about planned activities.
