COMMUNITY UPDATE
Sherford is a thriving - and constantly growing community - with plenty going on and always something interesting planned. With a unique and strong sense of community spirit, many who have made Sherford their home are active in social groups, activities and good causes.
The following is a summary of the Sherford Community Trust's most recent newsletter - which you can sign up to here.
A busy summer
Summer has been an active time for Sherford, with the Family Fun Day on 10th August bringing residents together for a well-attended market and celebration. The Sherford Youth Project has made significant progress, speaking with 100 young people throughout July to understand their needs and gather ideas for future provision. The Heritage working group has also achieved an important milestone, completing their National Lottery Heritage Fund project by creating a comprehensive Heritage Plan for Sherford, which will guide heritage events and family activities in the year ahead.
Get involved this Autumn
Autumn brings a packed calendar of community events and activities. The next market takes place on Sunday 14th September from 10am to 2pm, followed by an Autumn Fayre on 12th October. The Sherford Land Trust is hosting three “Meet the Trust” engagement sessions throughout September, providing residents with opportunities to learn about membership and get involved. Regular community activities continue to thrive, with the Over 50’s Club meeting every Thursday at the Hub, Sherford Community Church welcoming all on Sunday mornings, and the community choir gathering every other Wednesday evening for informal singing sessions.
Sherford’s great outdoors
The Country Park has been a particular highlight through the summer, with the Friends of Sherford Country Park spotting diverse wildlife throughout the area - butterflies in the valley walk near the picnic tables have been especially noteworthy. From 10th September, the group will resume their Wednesday morning conservation work, with autumn plans including wildflower meadow maintenance, nettle and bramble control, and bluebell planting. Family-friendly Saturday activities will begin from October. Residents are also encouraged to help the newly planted trees by giving them a drink during dry weather, and to leave out shallow saucers of water for bees. Community litter picks continue monthly, with the next sessions scheduled for 13th September and 11th October.
