SHERFORD DAY IS COMING
Date: Saturday 5th April
Times and locations:
10am: Sherford Country Park
The Sherford community is set to celebrate 'Sherford Day', marking eight years of growth and unwavering community spirit since the arrival of the first resident. Hosted by the town's thriving community groups and open to all, a day of activities is set to take place in honour of those who have made Sherford their home.
Heritage skills sharing
Taking place on Saturday 5th April from 10am, the Friends of Sherford Country Park will invite residents and members of the wider local community to participate in a special coppicing demonstration at Sherford's Country Park, an open green space that will eventually span 500-acres.
The coppicing demonstration showcases an ancient woodland management technique dating back to the Stone Age, where trees are cut down to stumps to encourage vibrant new growth. This activity forms part of the Heritage Project funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, highlighting the rural skills training sessions that have been taking place in the park.
Community lunch
From 12-2pm, the community will gather in the marquee for a bring-and-share lunch, with international cuisines especially welcomed. This communal feast represents the diverse and inclusive spirit that defines Sherford, offering an opportunity for neighbours to connect over delicious homemade dishes.
Green finger focus
The afternoon’s activities will continue from 2pm onwards, with children invited to participate in a sunflower growing competition, while attendees of all ages can help sow wildflower seeds and plant trees throughout the Country Park. These plantings symbolise the community's continued growth and are dedicated to those who have 'put down roots' at Sherford, while the wildflower seeds represent the town's bright, blooming future.
Coming together
A special moment in Sherford's calendar, the event marks eight years since the arrival of Sherford's founding resident, and nature has long played an important role in commemorating celebrations within the town.
The Friends of Sherford Country Park, Sherford Community Church, and the Over 50s Group have collaborated to organise this celebration of togetherness for the entire community – with support from Sherford Community Trust and its Residents Panel. These thriving community groups continue to enrich life at Sherford through their dedication to fostering connections among residents.
Don't miss this opportunity to celebrate Sherford's past, present and future while enjoying the great outdoors with neighbours and friends.
