JUNCTION SAFETY GUIDANCE AT SHERFORD
Concerns have been raised about use of the junction where Orion Drive, Capricorn Way, Thistle Road and Andromeda Grove meet; some motorists have been observed driving on the wrong side of the traffic island, creating hazardous situations for road users and pedestrians.
This is a reminder that all vehicles must keep to the left of the traffic island.
The traffic island serves several important safety functions at this junction. It is specifically designed to safely separate vehicles traveling in different directions while guiding drivers through in a controlled manner. It helps improve safety for everyone by naturally reducing vehicle speeds and preventing dangerous corner-cutting at the junction where visibility may be limited. For pedestrians, the traffic island also provides a designated safe crossing point, allowing them to cross one stream of traffic at a time.
We understand this junction has recently changed with the introduction of the traffic island, and that any change to road layout requires adjustment. However, it is essential that all road users follow the correct route around this junction for everyone's safety. New signage has been installed to clearly indicate the proper use of this junction.
Please:
- Keep to the left of the traffic island
- Observe all road markings
- Stay vigilant for other road users
- Follow the signage
- Take care when approaching the junction
