PARKING AND DRIVING SAFELY AT SHERFORD
A number of concerns have been raised by residents about dangerous parking at Sherford, from people driving on a footpath to post a letter, to pedestrians being forced into the road around parked cars.
This is a reminder that motorists may only park in designated residential parking allocated plots. Roads, footpaths and cycle paths must be kept clear of parking. We ask for your consideration and cooperation in this matter, for the safety and wellbeing of your family and neighbours.
Some pavements are wider than you may find in other towns, especially on Hercules Road, because Sherford has been designed to be an attractive, safe and walkable community. Under no circumstances should these pavements be used to drive or park upon. Signs clearly indicating public footpaths and cycle paths will be installed so these zones are clearly indicated.
Sherford is home to hundreds of families, a thriving school and nursery, park and outdoor facilities. Road casualty data by Brake reveals that every 19 days the equivalent of a whole class of young children is killed or seriously injured on roads in Britain. Parking and driving safely within Sherford is an active step you can take to minimise risk.
Pavement parking brings inherent dangers for all pedestrians and cyclists; being forced onto the carriageway and into the flow of traffic. This is particularly difficult for people with sight or mobility impairments, and those with prams or buggies.
Please help make Sherford as safe as possible for the whole community.
