6TH APRIL: ‘SHERFORD DAY’ CELEBRATIONS
Date: Saturday 6th April
Times and locations:
2pm: Sherford Country Park
3pm: Sherford Community Hub
The Sherford community is set to celebrate ‘Sherford Day’, marking seven years of growth and unwavering community spirit since the arrival of the first resident. Hosted by the town’s thriving community groups and open to all, a day of activities is set to take place in honour of those who have made Sherford their home.
Community celebrations
Taking place on Saturday 6th April from 2pm, The Friends of Sherford Country Park will invite resident and members of the wider local community to plant trees at Sherford’s Country Park, an open green space that will eventually span 500-acres.
Giving nature a helping hand, attendees will also scatter seeds to sow the start of colourful wildflower meadows. For mini green fingers and young adventurers, there will be a range of fun outdoor activities taking place, including a Forest School session, campfire activities, and a nature hunt to identify local wildlife.
One of several community groups thriving at Sherford, The Friends of Sherford Country Park undertakes projects within the town’s expansive open green space, encouraging people to enjoy, take care of, and socialise in the great outdoors. Other Sherford community groups hosting the celebrations include Sherford Community Land Trust, Sherford Community Church, and the Over 50’s Club.
A special moment in Sherford’s calendar, the event marks seven years since the arrival of Sherford’s founding resident, and nature has long played an important role in commemorating celebrations within the town. The planting of trees symbolises the community’s continued growth and is dedicated to those who have ‘put down roots’ at Sherford, while the sowing of seeds represents the town’s bright, blooming future.
The celebrations will continue throughout the afternoon, moving from the Country Park to Sherford Community Hub. Afternoon tea will be served from 3pm, and guests will be invited to enjoy the refreshments, find out more about the various community groups at Sherford, meet neighbours and make new friends.
Jenna Waters, Vistry Cornwall South West, part of the Sherford Consortium said: “This is a truly special place, with the community at its heart. So much has been achieved so far at Sherford and, with celebrations growing every year, events like this are an important part of life at the town. They also represent a great opportunity for residents – old and new – to come together to reflect on Sherford’s past, present and future.”
Judy Talbot, Project Coordinator, Sherford Community Trust, added: “Sherford Day is a celebration of togetherness and there will be much to get involved in. The community continues to flourish and it seems fitting to mark the special moment by planting trees, which will grow alongside the town and form part of this incredible landscape.”
