NEW BUS SERVICES BOOST SHERFORD’S CONNECTIONS
Sherford residents can now enjoy enhanced public transport options with the introduction of two new bus services connecting the community to Plymouth and surrounding areas. The new services improve links between Plympton and Plymstock, with one route directly serving Sherford and another stopping a short walk away.
New Service Details
The Number 4 has been extended beyond Plymstock Broadway to serve Plympton Ridgeway via Sherford and Sandy Road. This extension provides valuable new links for workers at Langage and for pupils traveling to and from school. The route runs from the City Centre to Plympton Ridgeway, via Saltram Meadow, Plymstock Broadway, and Sherford.
Residents can rely on this service with buses running hourly between:
- 6am and 9:05pm Monday to Friday
- 7am and 9pm on Saturdays
- 9am to 7pm on Sundays and bank holidays
The Number 4 will operate every day of the year, with the exception of Christmas Day, Boxing Day, and New Year's Day.
The Number 19, which previously ran between the city centre and Merafield, has been reinstated and extended to serve Plymstock Broadway and Plympton Ridgeway. While this service does not come directly into Sherford, it stops at Stanborough Cross, which is just a short walk away from the community.
The Number 19 will also provide a convenient connection to the new crematorium, with buses scheduled to stop at this location once the necessary infrastructure is in place, expected this spring.
Service Contracts
The Number 4 service is being contracted for three years, while Service 19 will initially be contracted for one year as it is fully funded through the Department for Transport's 2025/2026 Bus Grant. There is optimism that after the first year of operation, passenger numbers will reach levels that allow the service to be sustained commercially by the bus operator in the longer term.

These new services represent an important step forward in developing the comprehensive public transport network that Sherford's growing community needs, making it easier for residents to connect with the City Centre, Plymstock, Plympton and the surrounding areas.
