An active community
The vision for Sherford is to create a community where it is easy for people to be active, with high-quality, accessible sports and recreation facilities as well as informal outdoor space, walking and cycling routes.
The vision for Sherford is to create a community where it is easy for people to be active, with high-quality, accessible sports and recreation facilities as well as informal outdoor space, walking and cycling routes.
Sherford will enjoy a generous number of outdoor sports pitches situated on both the western and eastern edges of the community. From all weather pitches to cricket pavilions, adventure zones to playparks, Sherford’s facilities will support all ages and interests.
Sherford will be home to a new leisure centre, including a swimming pool. This year, a competitive tender process sought a new operator for the facility, and discussions are now taking place with Plymouth City Council as the Sherford Consortium works to identify viable delivery options. This is a multi-million pound project requiring significant capital investment together with an obligation to ensure longer term sustainability for the community.
Near to where the leisure centre will be built, the multi-use games area, skate park and playground are already open. An all-weather pitch, grass pitch and tennis courts are also open and this area, known as Sherford Sports Hub, is managed by Argyle Community Trust – you can book these facilities here.
Just to the north of the leisure centre will be cricket and rugby pitches, a further football pitch, a new pavilion with changing facilities, as well as pitches for the primary and secondary schools.
In the east of Sherford will be a further set of football pitches, tennis courts, cricket pavilion and changing facilities, as well as a multi-use games area and play area.
West Sherford Wood will also benefit from play facilities that will be integrated into the woodland area.
