From Sunday 30 August, the Stagecoach Service 4 will extend into Phase 2D of Sherford, giving residents in the Urban Quarter direct access to a regular bus route for the first time.
After leaving the ‘school square’ on Hercules Road, buses will continue along Hercules Road towards Plympton before turning into Equinox Drive and looping via Vortex Road, Dusk Avenue, Dewpoint Way and Nimbus Road, before rejoining Hercules Road.
The loop will operate in both directions, meaning residents will be able to catch a bus towards Plymouth City Centre or towards Plympton from stops much closer to home.
Two new bus stops have been installed to serve the extended route, at the top end of Equinox Drive and on Dewpoint Way.
Timetables are displayed at both new stops, so residents can check times with ease. The same timetable, along with live bus times, and an interactive map of the full route, is also available on the Stagecoach website:

The extension has been made possible by a financial contribution from the Sherford Consortium, working alongside Devon County Council, South Hams District Council, Plymouth City Council, and Stagecoach.
Plymouth City Council manages the Service 4 contract, and Stagecoach South West continues to operate the route. The new arrangement will run initially until 30th August 2027, at which point it will be reviewed to ensure the needs of the growing town are being appropriately met.
The change responds to feedback from residents living in Sherford’s newer neighbourhoods, who were keen for better connectivity and access to the public transport network. The new stops bring the bus route much closer to these homes.
Alongside the route extension, timetable changes are being introduced to improve the reliability and punctuality of the service.
Sherford continues to be served by two further routes: the 1A, connecting north Plymouth to Sherford, and the 80, running between Plymouth and Paignton. Both continue to operate from the existing stops on Hercules Road.
